The Aesthetician Behind the Beauty of Kim Kardashian and Countless Other A-list Influencers & Celebrities

In a social media world where attractiveness and good looks are more common than ever, meet the doctor tasked with keeping Hollywood looking young and beautiful.

His name is Dr. Ourian, and he’s been credited with enhancing the beauty of stars like the Kardashian sisters, Christina Brinkley, Olivia Culpo, Jenna Dewan and plenty more.

One may wonder how somebody would find themselves in the business of aesthetics, but to Dr. Ourian the choice was completely natural.

Born in the Middle East and immigrating to the United States in the 1980s, Dr. Ourian has always been obsessed with beauty in every sense of the word. His passion for beauty stems from a love of art and sculpting.

During his childhood, Dr. Ourian spent years practicing the art of sculpture and studying the works of master painters and sculptors. He would have loved to pursue a career in art, but after failing to sell a single piece of his work during shows put on in his teens, he decided to pursue the safer option of medicine instead.

Although he graduated with a medical degree from Wayne State University, Dr. Ourian never lost his love for art. And while attending his residency at UCLA, he discovered his true calling after learning about the field of laser and aesthetic surgery.

Soon after, Dr. Ourian opened his practice Epione Beverly Hills. Now servicing the luxury class with treatments that include innovative aesthetic procedures such as Botox, Restylane, and Radiesse injections, stretch mark removal, vein treatment, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels.

But starting his first business was far from a walk in the park. Like many other entrepreneurs, Dr. Ourian faced a number of challenges and made mistakes that would shape the person he is today.

One of those major mistakes? Showing off his cutting edge laser treatment technology, the Coolaser, to a company that would go on to make millions by ripping off his unique design.

Dr. Ourian created the Coolaser after realizing laser resurfacing worked for only a small percent of the population-those with pale white skin. It took him months to find a manufacturer that was able to take on my new concept for reducing the settings on a laser while also spacing out the laser columns and simultaneously cooling the skin. But when he finally found a German manufacturer to create the initial prototypes, he knew he had a winning product that would change the industry forever.

Unfortunately he didn’t know much about patent laws. And ended up showing off his technology to a company that apparently was interested in purchasing his design. They never did end up purchasing. And about a year later he learned that the same company was selling a ripoff version of his Coolaser specifically in a way that he couldn’t sue.

That company ended up making millions of dollars from Dr. Ourian’s design, which was obviously a huge blow.

But Dr. Ourian decided that he would double down on the technology instead of succumbing to the competition. He ended up creating a more effective and safer version of the Coolaser which he still uses in his practice today.

It ended up working out well for Dr. Ourian because clients didn’t just want to go to any office that had laser resurfacing technology for darker skin tones. They wanted to go to his clinic because he invented the technology, and who better to apply it than the creator?

Looking back at all of his trials and tribulations as an entrepreneur, Dr. Ourian does have some advice for those starting out.

“Find a mentor & take whatever feedback they give you and learn from it.” He also advises anyone entering business to take care of themselves when pursuing their passion. Because doing so will give you more energy and determination than anyone else, and that will help set you apart from others.

As for the future of Epione, Dr. Ourian is determined to spread his practice worldwide. He feels as though providing the best equipment and the highest level of treatment for anyone looking to have work done is his duty.

“There’s nothing that makes me feel better than making such a visible impact in other people’s lives on a daily basis,” Dr. Ourian says.

Revamping The Fitness Industry; TC1

Meet James Cork, the proud owner of TC1, a fitness and supplement company focusing on whole-body wellness with a product line ranging from fitness equipment to vitamins and minerals and topical supplements.

James is very committed to physical health and strove to pass that passion on to others through effective products that act to motivate people.

“Your health is not an option – it is a way of life,” exclaims James!

Humble Beginnings

In 2014 James and his team began formulating the ingredients behind their now signature product, the Sweat Ignition Gel. 

“We were looking to create a unique product within the fitness industry to combat traditional thermogenics and workout gels that gave minimal results” says James.

James and his team had previously run online marketing campaigns for supplement brands. The success they created with the brands they worked with gave them the confidence to launch their own brand of unique fitness products.

“We saw how successful we could be in marketing other people’s products, so we decided to take the risk and gathered the capital to launch our own brand. What motivated us was the positive reaction we started getting to our flagship product, our sweat ignition gel,” explains James.

With positive feedback consistently coming in about the effectiveness of their product, they knew we were on to something. 

Early Hurdles

Although TC1 is now a successful brand, they did have their early struggles.

“Finding good people to run the business was hard. Not to mention the difficulty of finding enough capital to support our goals in the beginning,” says James.

The fitness industry is also notorious for starting new trends. So staying ahead of curves and trends in their market was always difficult for James.

“There are a lot of challenges in starting your own business. It’s important to persist through those tough times and believe in your goals and strategy,” James remarks.

James believes that finding a group of dedicated people who understand things won’t always go well and who continually work hard to help keep the business going is the best way to weather any storm.

Getting Ahead

In an industry as packed as the fitness niche, it’s important to have an outlying expertise that sets you ahead of the pack. 

“Our online marketing experience has allowed us to advertise more successfully than our competitors. We wanted to have a strong marketing team that could get our products in front of people when we knew we could produce enough products to meet the coming demand. Our team is also diverse in our skill sets and areas of expertise, allowing us to consistently think about our business in unconventional ways” states James.

James also touts TC1’s product research and development strategy as what keeps them ahead of their competitors.

But it has also come back to bite them a few times.

“Trying to get too creative with products has hurt us in the past. Extending outside our core products has been costly, but not very damaging. We don’t ever want to ‘stay in our lane,’ but we do want to always think critically about products we want to bring to the market” James says.

Now James and TC1 are working on growing their business through their core products. Through that they hope to find themselves in the top ranks among online supplement brands someday soon.

Closing Thoughts

The insight of any successful entrepreneur is inherently valuable. James recommends creating a good team and staying dedicated to your goals.

“Creating a great team is essential to the success of every business. We look for people with a strong work ethic and who are able to think outside the box and carry our message of innovation into all aspects of our business. But as a CEO, you need to be dedicated to your goals and strategy. Those goals may change, but the end result of creating a successful business does not.”

Designing Smiles is This Dentist’s Passion; Dr. Matthew Kaiser

Dr. Matthew Kasiar is a general dentist practicing in the Nashville, TN area. Designing smiles is his passion! And Dr. Kasiar has been fortunate to help many people transform thier smiles including artists and celebrities. 

Currently, Dr. Kasiar uses virtual consults as a way to connect with potential patients all over the country. They are able to submit 2 pictures and within a week they receive a personal video consultation from Dr. Kasiar discussing treatment options and cost. Dr. Kasiar believes being transparent is the key. Patients want to know who they can trust, how long will it take, and how much it costs. He answers all those questions in the virtual consult. 

Kasiar has always been intrigued by the design process. Whether it’s designing something mechanical or a new smile, he loves the process!  

His path to dentistry was a unique one. Dr. Kasiar’s love for designing things led to becoming a Mechanical Engineer. He loved it, however he missed the people part of the job. That’s when Dr. Kasiar became intrigued with dentistry. It allowed him to design and also to have social interaction with patients and build relationships. “The feeling I get when a patient first sees their new smile is indescribable,” Dr. Kasiar says. “It is the most rewarding moment of the whole process.” 

Challenges of Entrepreneurship

According to Dr. Kasiar, the biggest challenge of entrepreneurship is deciding to take action on your dream. “There are a lot of great dreams and ideas out there that never make it to reality. Most often it’s because of a fear of failing. I say that because I was fearful too. But I knew I would always wonder ‘what if’ if I never tried,” Dr. Kasiar states. 

He also believes that having the right mindset is equally important. Dr. Kasiar believes that if you go into business with a negative attitude you will get negative results. However, he’s not saying that having a positive attitude will be enough. Problems will come up.  But it’s that positive mindset that will keep you motivated and focused to overcome them. 

Scaling a Business

Dr. Kasiar believes there are two things to keep in mind when scaling a business.

The first is to define your core customer. You want to find people who can use your service, and are willing to pay for it. You’ll then want to make sure they don’t start drama. And as a bonus, you’ll want to figure out if they are willing to refer other clients like themselves.

The second is to solve one major issue extremely well. Oftentimes, Dr. Kasiar notices that companies are selling anything to anyone without a real plan. He believes that if you want to grow a real business, you have to double down on solving one specific problem for a specific market. And if you can become an expert at that one thing you’ll be able to scale in that market because there’s likely more than enough customers in that niche. After all, the world is huge!

Standing Out From The Crowd

In order for his company to stand out from the crowd, Dr. Kasiar places huge emphasis on customer service. “I feel like the healthcare industry as a whole lacks quality customer service,” he says.

At his practice they don’t want patients to feel like an inconvenience instead of a patient. “We make each patient feel like they are the only one there. We are 100% focused on their needs and go above and beyond to exceed expectations. They aren’t just patients, they are our family” states Dr. Kasiar.

What Success Means to Dr. Kasiar

Dr. Kasiar believes that his biggest success has been his ability to give back to his community through free dental days. “We’ve been able to serve many people who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to receive treatment. It’s amazing to see all the competing doctors come together for a common cause and serve our community. It truly is a rewarding experience for everyone!”

As for his legacy, Dr. Kasiar wants to be known as the dentist to come to for a smile makeover. He seeks to build confidence for every patient he’s worked with so that they can be the best version of themselves. And he wants to be known for helping teach other dentists the art of designing smiles.
