Meet Elsy Guevara the 22-Year-Old Disrupting The Fashion Industry

At the age of 22, Elsy Guevara has managed to disrupt the fashion industry by turning a hobby into a successful business. When Elsy was just 17 years old, unlike most teenagers her age, she started to brainstorm ways she could use social media and her love for fashion to launch an online business. As a hobby, she and her sisters, Beatriz Guevara, Jennifer Guevara, and Patricia Guevara, started creating and posting fashion layouts and taking full-body outfit pictures for social media. The fashion posts became so popular that it captured the attention of a very successful fashion brand, Fashion Nova. The company directly messaged Elsy and asked her if she could create content for them, which eventually lead to a full-time job in the company. While working at Fashion Nova, Elsy and her sisters worked on building their fashion brand, OOTDFash. OOTDFash began with one rack of clothing in their mother’s bedroom where the sisters would find places in their small apartment to take outfit pictures and promote the few styles they were selling. Fortunately, the outfit and fashion content were getting recognition on social media, which resulted in an unexpected sales growth for Elsy and her sisters. Although the business is continually growing and now considered quite successful, there were many challenges and obstacles that Elsy and her sisters had to face and learn to overcome.

Almost Quitting but Finding a Reason to Move On

Not only did the increase in social media following and incoming sales encouraged Elsy and her sisters to continue, but these small successes over time also discouraged them. With growing social media popularity also came constant criticism and negativity. Every new fashion post was followed by mostly positive comments, but critical commentators always made their presence known. Commentators compared the growing business to other competitors, and Elsy found that it fueled the tensions between the more experienced competition and OOTDFash. Launching a business with no experience was sometimes discouraging for the sisters because there were moments they felt lost and had to find the right ways to manage and run the business with their research. Going up against businesses with years of experience before them and assistance was a challenging mental battle that was fought daily, especially when social media always reminded them of who they were up against. Being constantly critiqued and compared was upsetting to Elsy because there was still that strong human nature desire to satisfy everyone. Although it was very discouraging to read some of the negative opinions, overtime the sisters started to understand that the negative comments were not a real reflection of their work and self.

While criticism was constantly testing Elsy’s patience, there were even tougher lessons Elsy learned the hard way. It was always in Elsy’s nature to immediately see the good in someone and gain people’s trust quickly. When meeting new people, intentions were never questioned, but unfortunately, she learned the hard way that not everyone walks into the business with the mindset to help. Welcoming the wrong people into the family business has lead to company money and ideas being stolen, but over the last couple of years, Elsy and her sisters have managed to look past their losses and learn from the experiences. They have accepted that they will always face setbacks as business owners and with these failures and negative experiences, come valuable lessons and personal growth.

Standing out from the Rest

In the fashion industry, there is and will always be competition. Standing out and setting the business apart from the rest is a challenge that never seems to go away due to the fast-changing industry the business is in. Creating styles that not only make the person feel amazing and comfortable but also believing in one’s fashion sense is how Elsy and her sister found themselves setting themselves apart from competition. Although OOTDFash is growing and gaining popularity, Elsy felt like she could use the lessons and experiences learned from starting a business with zero experience to help other young women with little to no experience start their ventures. She felt that she could do more than just sell to her audience, but instead also help those few that want to follow in her footsteps.

For this reason, she recently launched a wholesale fashion company, Galifornia Wholesale. Galifornia Wholesale sells styles to small new boutiques at affordable prices. The new wholesale business supports Elsy’s efforts to try and help other young women bring the latest styles to their own boutiques and help them get started in their sales growth. One may find helping other young women build businesses in the same industry Elsy competes in herself may hurt her business in the long run. However, Elsy does not view competition from a negative perspective. The unselfish and kind guidance Elsy hopes to give these young entrepreneurs is something that makes her stand out. Afterall she states that she does not measure success in the amount of money she makes, but instead the number of lives she positively impacts. The four sisters hope to continue their journey, along with helping others as they grow.

Red flags and a steamy tryst send award-winning songwriter Brandon Calano into a heartbreak spiral on Becoming Young’s sensual single, “High.”

There’s just something ‘bout you, Girl/This could be so dangerous Brandon Calano—who releases music as Becoming Young—sings on the smoldering new single, “High.” She’s irresistible, the warning signs are undeniable, but impulses and booze enable the ill-fated seduction.

“I was very single at the time and enjoying it. I was definitely not looking for a relationship, but I met a girl one night who changed the course of my life,” the Nashville-based artist details.

“High” will be released April 24th 2020 as a single, and later included with a 4-song EP of balmy summer jams. These releases will seed the path to Becoming Young’s upcoming album, which will feature tracks produced by Ryan Hadlock (Vance Joy, the Lumineers, Phillip Phillips, Milo Greene, and Brandi Carlile). Slated to mix the record is John O’Mahony (Matt Maeson, Coldplay, 21 Pilots, Vance Joy). The new album will explore the heartache aftermath of “High.”

The intoxicating slow-grind of “High” blurs the lines between electro pop, indie pop, R&B, singer-songwriter narrative writing, and urban pop. It features an ear worm of a sensually jazzy guitar hook, and the slow-burn singing of a confident man getting a little weak in the knees as he falls prey to uncontrollable desire. “High” draws from the urban-hued electro-pop stylings of Two Feet, Khalid, NoMBe, Dennis Lloyd, and Beauville.

The Nashville-based artist who is an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, and mixer invited some friends to collaborate with him on his latest. “High” was co-written with producers/singer-songwriters Knox Morris and Will Sivy. The track was produced by up-and-coming Nashville-based producer Austin Shawn.

Brandon basically fled his hometown of Boulder, Colorado to rebound from the fallout he experienced after his relationship with the love interest in “High” ended. He moved to Nashville not knowing a soul, but quickly found his way into the fertile music scene, playing songwriter rounds and showcases nearly every night of the week. Career accomplishments to date include winning Nashville’s esteemed True Music Room Top Writer Series; his first pop single, “Trippin,” accruing over a quarter-million streams on Spotify; and playing sold-out shows in Atlanta, Denver, Boulder, Portland, and Seattle.

Brandon has been working closely with Grammy-nominated producer Ryan Hadlock on his next album. That association has opened many doors, including connecting him with Chuck Morris, CEO of AEG Presents. This is an association close to Brandon’s heart as both he and Chuck are graduates of University of Colorado at Boulder. Brandon has also been enjoying a brother/sister collaboration with his sibling, Carson Calano, an accomplished visual artist whose singular aesthetic has helped define Becoming Young’s imaging.

Meet Mike Morse, The Man Who Built Michigan’s Largest Personal Injury Firm

It has become clear who the “Legal Titan” is in Michigan. Mike Morse’s personal injury firm, Mike Morse Law Firm, collected more than $160 million in settlements and verdicts in 2018, and has won over one billion dollars for his clients since it was founded in 1995. The office is made up of 150 employees and 50 attorneys making it the largest personal injury firm in the state. Morse mastered turning rejected cases into thousands of dollars in settlements and referral fees and is known today as a leader in Michigan’s legal community.

When someone achieves so much, people want to know how it was done. Lawyers have come to Morse for years asking how he built his firm. Here’s the inside scoop on what he believes is the key to his success.

Perseverance Is Key

Like in any business, Morse had to overcome challenges that tested his commitment to his goal and to himself.

Before Morse finished law school, his father, who was also a lawyer and who he planned to go into business with, passed away.  He was left with nothing.  This was Morse’s initial test of his dedication to his vision. However, he believed great things come to those who learn how to overcome setbacks. Morse chose to continue to pursue becoming a lawyer and eventually built a well-established practice.

Then, in 2008, a fire engulfed Morse’s building.

Some might give up after such a devastating loss, but not Morse.  He was calling his clients the next day.  Like most people, he had no experience rebuilding from such a devastation, let alone grasping what to do in the moment. However, by staying committed to the values he knew regardless of the scenario, Morse handled the situation day by day and his comeback story continued.

When Your Big Break Comes, Give It Everything You’ve Got

A few years into running his own practice, Morse’s father-in-law introduced him to “Sid”, Detroit’s premier personal injury attorney at that time. Despite having to pay Sid forty percent of the total fees he brought in from the cases (the typical rate being only one-third), Morse knew how big the opportunity was so he accepted the offer.  Sid referred Morse a handful of cases, and he brought his best to every case.

One day, Morse received a case from Sid likely worth only $2,500. Continuing to work his hardest no matter what, Morse managed to get $25,000 for it. When he sent Sid his check for the case, it opened up the door for him. Sid immediately began sending more cases, eventually referring Morse 70 percent of his personal injury cases.

At the peak, Morse was paying Sid more than $4 million a year in referral fees, and it was all because Morse treated every case like gold. He gave every client the highest level of service and it paid off.

In 2011, Sid unexpectedly parted ways with Morse. Like many times before, Morse immediately had to plan his next move. He knew he needed to create a new way to bring in clients and not have to rely on or be affected by an outside factor. 

Become Fireproof

With the experience Morse gained from his father’s death to the fire that burnt down his office to the moment Sid stopped referring him cases, Morse learned how to “fireproof” his business.  Today, his firm is the largest personal injury firm in Michigan.

Morse believes anyone can adopt his principles and operate by them. He hopes to inspire others to trust their values and stay committed to their personal goals regardless of how difficult the path may look.

Meet Sam Taggart: The Entrepreneur That is Revitalizing Door to Door Sales

Sam Taggart has been knocking doors since he was eleven years old. Coming from a family of businessmen and women, Sam began his career painting curbs. Quickly rising to the top, Sam had a profitable business of $100,000 before he graduated high school. After serving a 2-year mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Sam stepped into the Home Automation industry where his career skyrocketed.

As a successful, competitive door knocker, Sam sold over 400 alarm accounts making a bold statement in the industry that college wasn’t the only answer to having a successful career that could financially take care of his family. After his accomplishments, he decided to take his career to the next level by switching to the Solar industry and becoming the VP of Sales. Being VP of Sales was great; however, while building the business he learned some basic fundamentals that were missing across the industry and felt inspired to create something bigger.

Against all advice, Sam pursued his passion to Unify, Up-level and Bring Honor and Integrity to the door to door space. Not having any idea how he’d build the business, he quickly joined forces with his sister Abigail Ayres, and they went to work. Together, they created, built and launched D2D Con (Door to Door Conference) locking in over 25 vendors and 900 attendees their first year. Year one of his conference he even had a friendly fire, but that didn’t stop Sam from pursuing his mission. Here He is 4 years later, 3000 attendees from all over the USA, Canada and England and over 85 vendors.

Sam had no idea when he stepped out of the Home Automation and Solar Industry, that 4 years later he would have a Million Dollar Company, his dream job, with his dream team, and his dream house, marking off several of his “bucket list” items all by the time he turned 30. Over the last 4 years, Sam has added many products and services to his company. Originally creating a sales conference to neutrally train and up level all industries, Sam discovered the industry was calling for more. He trusted his intuition and created a white label virtual training platform, business consulting service, business bootcamps and coaching services.

Through Sam’s experience he has learned that many people are skilled at sales, but many companies don’t have systems and processes to assist in supporting their sales representatives. In order for Sam to achieve his goal of Unifying, Up leveling and Bringing Honor and Integrity to the door to door space, he saw his vision needed to be much larger and expanding was necessary. Speaking engagements taking him all over the United States, he quickly saw a need that wasn’t being met and began to fill it.

In today’s world with COVID-19 rapidly spreading, causing many businesses to go virtual and shifting the entire sales industry as we once knew it, Sam has quickly adapted and is teaching people all over the world how to virtually sell and connect. He is also training many businesses on how to keep their doors open and sales flowing.

Now, more than ever, Sam is clear on one thing, “I will never let anything hold me back from taking committed action to achieve my goals.” Sam continues to say: “I will continue to adapt and leverage my sales skills to innovate, contribute, unify and inspire people across the world. My mission is being fulfilled on a daily basis as more and more people see what we are building and why and how it can apply to their business. It’s not just door to door sales, it’s business in general.”
